A rich understanding of embodiment is necessary for a theory of being to be in accord with reality. One aspect of the ‘problem’ in ‘the mind body problem’ is that it turns mind (and the rest of personality) into a ghost, and the body into a machine. Obvious reality is that personality is an embodied thing and our bodies are living and ever-changing organisms. The human body is not at all like a unchanging machine made from independent parts. The machine metaphor is a poor one that leads more to misunderstanding than any rational light it might shed on matters.
