A Critic of Methods

The phrase ‘a critic of methods’ in Popper’s writings struck me as enlightening. How much more to the heart of the matter it is to examine methods instead of haggling over the meaning of results.

Results are subject to individual judgement and interpretations, their consequences may be ongoing and they may even be irrelevant, if they are, THE RESULTS OF FAULTY METHODS.

Since if the methods were faulty, the results of better methods would be more worthy of our time and effort to discuss.

Limitation Philosophy is in many respects a criticism of methods.

When I say, “Anthropomorphism leads only to error.” the criticism is obvious, but the significance of the bold statement is that it attacks the methods, not the results.

When others say, “Christianity is a failure, because it fails to solve the problem of evil,” they are making an observation, without bothering to look at why this is the case.

The observation could be, at least in part, irrelevant if we chose to see the problem from the different perspective an alternative to Christianity would provide.

Limitation Philosophy is an alternative to the methods of ordinary theism. The methods employed by Limitation Philosophy produce different results that deserve to be looked at because many reasonable people see ordinary theism as failing to provide adequate answers to the problems ordinary theists claim the exclusive right to address. (The term Ordinary Theism implies commonality across sects on the general conceptual framework of theistic ideas. The general conception of God, as a term of cultural language.)
